Today FotoWare announces the transition to full XMP metadata support with the release of FotoWare version 6.0. XMP fits perfectly with FotoWare’s philosophy and indexing technology platform, and is fully compatible with existing installations.
The shift from IPTC to XMP metadata support in all FotoWare applications opens new opportunities to the users. Metadata can now be added to any kind of file type, making it fully searchable by a FotoWare system. The multi-lingual support of XMP allows users to write and search for metadata in any language, a function warmly welcomed by international media houses and global players in the corporate market.

At this year’s IfraExpo in Vienna (October 8-11) FotoWare presents several new and exciting features concerning image workflow in newspaper and magazine production.
The highlight at the show is the new automatic repro tool called SmartColor™. Traditionally, manual retouching of images has been the key to high quality results. This time consuming and costly operation is now facing an extremely time and cost effective alternative with amazing results. SmartColor™ will automatically enhance the image contrast by setting the optimum white- and black-point, as well as perform gamma correction. What’s more, SmartColor offers advanced colour enhancement that identifies different colour cast situations. It even enhances colours that naturally please the human eye, like skin, sky and vegetation. The shadows and highlights enhancement in SmartColor will make details in the shadow areas more visible, while in the overexposed areas, like a flash portrait, skin details can be recovered.

Adobe's Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) is a labeling technology that allows you to embed data about a file, known as metadata, into the file itself. With XMP, desktop applications and back-end publishing systems gain a common method for capturing, sharing, and leveraging this valuable metadata — opening the door for more efficient job processing, workflow automation, and rights management, among many other possibilities. With XMP, Adobe has taken the “heavy lifting” out of metadata integration, offering content creators an easy way to embed meaningful information about their projects and providing industry partners with standards-based building blocks to develop optimized workflow solutions.
FotoWare is currently in beta release of XMP ready versions of their complete line of digital asset management solutions including FotoStation and Cameleon. Fotoware has helped to shape the direction of the IPTC standard which is one of the foundations of XMP.

Under the conference title “Working Towards A Seamless Photo Workflow” Clemens Molinari at FotoWare Germany presented FotoWare’s views and recommendations for metadata handling now and in the future.
